We present DHClus, a new Divisive Hierarchical Clustering algorithm developed to detect clusters with arbitrary shapes. Our algorithm is able to solve clustering problems defined by different scales, i.e. clusters with arbitrarily dissimilar densities, connectivity or between cluster distances. The algorithm not only works under this difficult connditions but it is also able to find the number of clusters automatically. This paper describes this new algorithm and then present results on real gene expression data. We compare the results of DHClus with other algorithms to provide a reference frame.Sociedad Argentina de Informática e Investigación Operativa (SADIO

Short Food Supply Chains (SFSCs) are forms of agrifood product circulation that have the aim of bringing together producers and consumers, promoting fair trade, and giving access to local foods. The study of SFSCs is a developing area of knowledge. The objective of the research was to perform a bibliometric analysis of the evolution and the current state of international scientific research on SFSCs and to identify trends and opportunities for research, specifically in Latin America. For this purpose, we carried a bibliometric analysis out, through the databases Dimensions and Redalyc, during the period of 2000 to 2021 and processed in the VOSviewer software. Results show a total of 253 documents and it was determined that Europe represents 67% of the research on SFSCs; however, a growing production of studies can be seen in North America and Latin America, primarily in case studies, which represent 25%. The areas of knowledge where there are more studies are the social sciences, administration and economy. The conclusion is that COVID-19, food security and agrifood policies are areas of opportunity for research linked to Short Food Supply Chains in Latin America.

Application of Model-driven engineering to multi-agent systems: a language to model behaviors of reactive agents

Many users of multi-agent systems (MAS) are very commonly disinclined to model and simulate using current MAS platforms. More specifically, modeling the dynamics of a system (in particular the agents' behaviors) is very often a challenge to MAS users. This issue is more often observed in the domain of socio-ecological systems (SES), because SES domain experts are rarely programmers. Indeed, the majority of MAS platforms were not conceived taking into consideration domain-experts who are non-programmers. Most current MAS tools are not dedicated to SES, or nor do they possess an easily understandable formalism to represent the behaviors of agents. Moreover, because it is platform-dependent, a model realized in a given MAS platform cannot be properly used on another platform due to incompatibility between MAS platforms. To overcome these limitations, we propose a domain-specific language (DSL) to describe the behaviors of reactive agents, regardless of the MAS platform used for simulation. To achieve this result, we used model-driven engineering (MDE), an approach that provides tools to develop DSLs from a meta-model (abstract syntax), textual editors with syntax highlighting (for the concrete syntax) and code generation capabilities (for source-code generation of a model). As a result, we implemented a language and a textual editor that allow SES domain experts to describe behaviors in three different ways that are close to their natural expression: as equations when they are familiar with these, as a sequence of activities close to natural language or as an activity diagram to represent decisions and a sequence of behaviors using a graphic formalism. To demonstrate interoperability, we also developed code generators targeting two different MAS platforms (Cormas and Netlogo). We tested the code generators by implementing two SES models with the developed DSL. The generated code was targeted to both MAS platforms (Cormas and Netlogo), and successfully simulated in one of them. We conclude that the MDE approach provides adequate tools to develop DSL and code generators to facilitate MAS modeling and simulation by non-programmers. Concerning the DSL developed, although the behavioral aspect of MAS simulation is part of the complexity of modeling in MAS, there are still other essential aspects of model and simulation of MAS that are yet to be explored, such as model initialization and points of view on the model simulated worl

    Violência sacrificial em Planeta Hulk

In spite of their increasing popularity, comic books have not yet been sufficiently explored when it comes to academic studies about the violence they contain. Comics derive from pulp fiction, a kind of literature in which the protagonists usually do whatever it takes to reach their goals. The course of development of the genre comprises several phases, from the establishment of a regulatory body of censorship to the creation of different superheroes that follow different moral codes. One of them, Hulk – inspired in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Lee, 1974, p. 75) –, is a wild giant that breaks out whenever his alter ego, scientist Bruce Banner, grows angry. Hulk has been accepted as a hero ever since his creation, although he is not able to control his own actions, and often gets involved in fights against other heroes. The aim of this work is to analyze Planet Hulk, a story in which Hulk is exiled from Earth, in order to check its relation to René Girard’s ideas about sacrificial violence, and also to understand the ways in which violence is presented to the reader. Under the premise that comics can be taken as a representation of the society from which they derive, we hope to come to conclusions about the relation involving this kind of artistic expression and the reading public that consumes it so as to deal with, absorb, and repress the violence there contained. Keywords: Comics, Marvel Comics, Planet Hulk, Sacrificial violence, René Girard.
